Parangal Lingkod Sambayanan

This award, first given to Radio Veritas in 1983, gives recognition to outstanding public service of an individual or organization. On 7 February 2004, the Ateneo de Manila University Board of Trustees renamed the Public Service Award to Parangal Lingkod Sambayanan.
Public service is defined as areas of endeavor that support or complement what government should be or is doing, eg, helping the needy, protecting the environment, promoting public discourse, promoting peace and development.

Criteria for Nomination and Selection

  1. The public service must have been rendered continuously over a significant length of time and in a manner worthy of emulation and distinction as good role models for the youth.
  2. The spirit of volunteerism should be evident in the delivery of the public service which does not ask for or take anything in return, except perhaps the satisfaction that comes from serving God and fellowmen.
  3. Volunteerism is not limited to charitable acts but may include business ventures or work with people’s organizations that address a felt need.
  4. The service is rendered in a professional manner with the appropriate training/expertise and teamwork or leadership.
  5. The award may be given to individuals or organizations.
