Lucuba Palm (Chrysalidocarpus madagascariensis (D.T.Fish) Becc.)

Botanical Description

The Lucuba Palm (Chrysalidocarpus madagascariensis) also known as the Malagasy Palm is a palm with variable habit, either being solitary or clustering. It bears a superficial semblance to the sagisi palm (Heterospathe elata) with its intrafoliar inflorescence albeit with its leaves displaying more exaggerated forking away from each other and its crownshaft being broader thus giving it a more triangular silhouette akin to a triangle palm (Dypsis decaryi).

Uses:

  • The tree is commonly used for landscaping near roads due to its hardiness under direct sunlight as well as its unique appearance.
