AdMU-Alumni Council

Strengthening bonds, harnessing synergies

In 2021, University President Fr Bobby Yap SJ unveiled Lux in Domino, Ateneo de Manila University's Strategic Plan 2030, addressing four priority areas: Education Reform and Transformation, Integral Ecology, Universal Health and Well-being, and Bridging Cultural Divides. Lux in Domino lays out a vision for Ateneo de Manila and articulates the strategies and actions of the University in the next decade.

Ateneo alumni are an essential part of the University's story and development. So, in the same year, the Ateneo de Manila University- Ateneo Alumni Association was formed with Ateneo administrators and AAA trustees appointed as council members.

Recognizing the enduring connections of Ateneans from Basic Education to Higher Education, the Council has been renamed AdMu-Alumni Council and now includes alumni representatives from the High School and College as well as the Professional Schools (Law, School of Government, School of Medicine and Public Health, and Graduate School of Business). In expanding the network, the Council hopes to amplify its engagement with alumni, connecting to a diverse Ateneo de Manila community here and abroad.

Fr Kit Bautista SJ, Director of the Office of the University Development and Alumni Affairs (OUDAA), is the chair of the Council. Fr Kit shares an update on the Council's work in an interview.

"The Council has held monthly meetings since its renaming in March 2023. We aim to strengthen the cooperation between Ateneo de Manila and the alumni to harness synergies and align common efforts toward the University's advancement. We've discussed how the Council can contribute to the Lux in Domino Plan, our Magis Aspiration. We hope to flesh out the details soon," he says.

The year 2023 marks the golden anniversary of two auspicious and heartening events within the Jesuit and Ateneo de Manila history:  1. Fr Pedro Arrupe's "Men for Others" address which has impacted the Society's commitment to education and the promotion of faith and social justice, and 2. Coeducation in the University. These anniversaries allow the University to reflect on the work, commitment, and contribution of every Atenean to be men-and-women-for-and-with-others in the past 50 years. Fr Kit shares that plans are afoot to commemorate these life-altering events.

OUDAA, which oversees the Council, is an integration of two offices: the Office of University Development and the Office of Alumni Relations. In June 2022, the two offices were merged to advance the mission and strategies of the University among its alumni and donors.

"OUDAAA will continue to foster and build a lifelong partnership with friends of the University, graduates, alumni associations, parents, parents and parents associations, and donors through formation, engagement, and culture- enhancing programs. We also strive to advance the academic, research, sustainability, and social engagement thrusts of Ateneo de Manila through resource generation and fundraising," Fr Kit adds.

The Council and OUDAA, Fr Kit concludes, will keep looking for opportunities to nurture the bonds of Ateneans, no matter the distance, and ignite discussions to keep alumni Lux in Domino period
