Dear Friends,

Lux in Domino!

Lux in Domino, or "Light in the Lord," takes on special meaning during this time of year. We await the coming of the Light of the World, and in that spirit of hope and anticipation, we present this latest issue of Fabilioh. Within these pages, we explore how our community seeks to shed some light on the vital and evolving conversations around gender within our university and beyond.

We recognize that gender is a subject of significant contemporary discussion that touches each member of our diverse alumni body in unique ways, prompting reflection and a variety of perspectives. Our purpose here is to engage these topics with characteristic Ateneo depth—fostering understanding, dialogue, and compassion. In doing so, we strive to exercise cura personalis—personal care for the each individual—ensuring that every person connected to the university community feels seen, respected, and able to flourish, just as the Christ-Child warmly welcomes everyone to the manger.

Within these pages, we offer an in-depth look at the essential work of the University Gender and Development cluster. These offices are central to the institution's ongoing efforts to integrate thoughtful sensitivity and robust support systems into campus life, cultivating an environment where all members can thrive.

We are also proud to spotlight the extraordinary women currently steering some of our most significant academic units. Through profiles of the women leaders in the Senior High School, Junior High School, School of Humanities (SOH), and the Ateneo School of Government (ASOG), we celebrate their significant contributions, vision, and the vital perspectives they bring to leadership—powerful examples of excellence that inspire the entire Ateneo community.

Further exploring the diverse threads of the Ateneo narrative, we feature an inspiring profile of Mela Habijan (AB Communication ’08), a celebrated advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. Mela’s journey exemplifies the Ateneo call to use one's unique gifts and platform to serve others and champion dignity for all members of society, particularly those most vulnerable and marginalized.

This issue is offered as an opportunity to inform and inspire, presenting different facets of how our community strives to live out the Ateneo mission in a changing world. We invite you to engage with these stories with an open mind and a generous spirit, celebrating the richness of thought and experience that defines the Ateneo de Manila community.

May Christ’s light and peace fill your hearts and homes.

Warm Wishes,
Fr RB Hizon SJ
