Ateneo CCTV Notice
Ateneo de Manila University operates closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems in its campuses, with each one having a wide coverage (e.g., gates, perimeter fence, roads, sidewalks, corridors, stairways, parking areas, sports facilities, cafeterias, offices, libraries, theaters, chapels, faculty rooms, areas of transaction and risk, open and common areas, selected rooms, etc.).
The CCTV systems only record and store images—both still and moving. The systems are used primarily for monitoring the ingress and egress of people, and the detection and prevention of crimes and violations of school policies, as well as other prohibited acts. This is in support of the University’s objective of providing adequate protection and security to the community. When allowed by law and deemed appropriate, footage may also be disclosed to law enforcement, the media, and other authorized third parties.
To secure CCTV records, they are kept in controlled facilities, access to which is limited to authorized personnel only. There is a backup system in place to ensure their availability when needed.
The records are kept for up to a month from the date they were generated, unless a longer retention period is required or allowed by law, regulation, court order, or some other legal basis. Retaining CCTV records while there is a pending administrative investigation or disciplinary case is one example.
Should individuals wish to exercise any of their rights in relation to CCTV records they feature in, they may do so any time in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, including the University’s CCTV Policy.
