Address and Office Hours

The Office of the Associate Dean for the Core Curriculum (OADCC) oversees the overall framework and implementation of the core curriculum, the development of the content and methodologies of the core courses, the choice and formation of faculty teaching these courses, and the links with the Integrated Ateneo Formation (InAF) program and the major curricula in order to foster integral, interdisciplinary and Ignatian formation.

Thus the main functions of the Associate Dean for the Core Curriculum (ADCC) are:

  1. To organize and engage faculty members in the Core Cluster Committees (by fields: Language and Literature, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Social Sciences and History, Philosophy and Theology, and Interdisciplinary Electives; and year levels/stages of formation) and sub-committees that develop and refine the content, methodologies, and assessment of the core courses, in coordination with the Schools/Departments/Programs offering these courses and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (ADAA);
  2. To ensure that the core courses are taught with an eye to formation through the hiring, training, re-tooling and continuing development of faculty members teaching these courses in the spirit of Ignatian pedagogy and Christian humanism, in coordination with the relevant Schools/Departments/Programs and the Faculty Formation Team;
  3.  To facilitate the close links between the core courses and the appropriate InAF program, in coordination with the Associate Dean for Student Formation (ADSF);
  4.  To facilitate cross-disciplinary conversations among faculty and formation professionals involved in teaching the core courses in order to foster closer collaboration and integration within the core curriculum in the areas of course content, teaching pedagogy, student assessment, and faculty formation.
  5.  To maintain the high quality of the core curriculum through quality assurance processes, e.g., performance management of faculty members, effective use of learning resources, and appropriate evaluation tools for assessment;
  6.  To initiate and support research which documents and analyzes the experiences and processes arising from the development and implementation of the core curriculum, and other work which can enrich Ignatian pedagogy, foster interdisciplinary teaching and holistic formation, deepen perspectives on the core curriculum, and contribute to publications, in coordination with the Associate Dean for Research and Creative Work (ADRCW);
  7. To take the lead in any administrative process concerning the core curriculum and provide oversight and links required in its implementation, e.g., reporting to the Vice President’s Council on the state of the core curriculum, coordinating with Deans, Department Chairs, and Program Directors regarding the distribution of faculty teaching loads.
