IS Research Faculty Kenneth Isaiah I. Abante (research faculty) received the of the Philippines President Edgardo J. Angara or UP-PEJA Fellowship at the Awarding Ceremonies held on Sept. 24, 2023. 

UP PEJA Fellowship Award is given to members of the academe, researchers and scholars in the Philippines or abroad "who have distinguished themselves in policy research and has shown leadership potential, experience, and most importantly, commitment to service and the improvement of the education sectors." 

Ken Abante, who currently serves as President of WeSolve Foundation received the fellowship award together with his co-proponent Riz Supreme Comia.

Toma Cayabyab

 

Toma Cayabyab of the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies performed as conductor of the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth in the latest production of RAMA, HARI in theaters held on September 2023. This landmark dance musical returned to the stage to give today's audiences a rare opportunity to enjoy the combined artistry of five national artists who had a hand in producing this Ramayana-based performance when it premiered over four decades ago. This production used the choreography of Alice Reyes (National Artist for Dance), the music of Ryan Cayabyab (National Artist for Music), lyrics and libretto of Bienvenido Lumbera (National Artist for Literature), with the translation of Rolando Tinio (National Artist for Theater and Literature), and stage design of Salvador "Badong" Bernal (National Artist for Theater Design).

For last year’s Ateneo Talakayang Alay sa Bayan (TALAB), with the theme “Renewing Our Commitment: Persons for Others @ 50,” the SOH Sangunian in collaboration with IS, ISA, and ALIWW held a lecture by Professor Emeritus Dr. Soledad S. Reyes.

The lecture recounted the experience of Dr. Reyes and how her research grew, covering the topics of Literature History, Theory and Criticism, Komiks, and Women in Writing.

IS Faculty member TOMA CAYABYAB and his jazz sextet DEBONAIRE DISTRICT as they performed live in "Born in Manila (A Tribute to Aute)" a concert presented by Instituto Cervantes de Manila in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the birth of the Manila-born singer-composer and painter Luis Eduardo Aute. This event will be held on Tuesday, November 7, at 7:00 PM in the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium at the RCBC Plaza in Makati.
