Life On Land

Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss

The University has started a number of initiatives in order to promote the preservation and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems. The public showing of the documentary "Bird of Prey" at the Arete, which examined the environmental, sociocultural, and economic challenges surrounding the protection of the Philippine eagle, was one such endeavor.
In addition, the University and the Energy Development Company developed an arboretum on the campus. One of the University's many initiatives to preserve and improve current ecosystems is the Arboretum, which strives to preserve endangered native tree species.

SDG 15: Balancing Support for Land Ecosystems and Waste Management

Analysis of SDG 15 trends reveals varying support for land ecosystems through education, action, and waste disposal. Education saw strong emphasis in 2022 but decreased in impact in 2023. Action for land ecosystems improved in 2022 but declined in 2023, warranting further investigation. Land-sensitive waste disposal practices improved but slightly dipped in 2023, indicating the need for ongoing efforts to safeguard land ecosystems.

Support for land ecosystems through action surged from 2021 to 2022 but declined in 2023. Policies address sustainable land use, conservation, restoration, species monitoring, and collaboration for shared land ecosystems. Progress in 2022 was followed by a decline in 2023, necessitating analysis for improvement.

Land-sensitive waste disposal improved significantly from 2021 to 2022 but slightly dipped in 2023. Policies cover water discharge, plastic waste reduction, and hazardous waste disposal. While there was progress, the slight 2023 decline underscores the importance of focusing on minimizing the impact on land ecosystems.
