Who We Are

 

Kendra

Dr. Charlotte Kendra Gotangco Gonzales is the Director of the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability and Chair of the Leadership Council of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network Philippines (SDSN PH). She received her Bachelor of Science in Physics with a Minor in Philosophy at the Ateneo de Manila University and her Master of Environmental Management in a joint degree program with Ateneo de Manila University and the University of San Francisco. She obtained her Ph.D. in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Purdue University, USA. At the Environmental Science Department, she teaches Systems Thinking, Climate and Earth Systems and Science, Technology and Society. She also teaches for the MS in Science Education program of the School of Science and Engineering, and the MS in Sustainability Management program of the John Gokongwei School of Management. Her research interests include human-environment dynamics and the systems approach, climate change and disaster risk, and resilience.

Abby

Abigail Marie T. Favis is the Program Manager for Campus Sustainability. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science from the Ateneo de Manila University and took her Master of Science in Environmental Sanitation at the State University of Ghent, Belgium. She is an assistant professor at the Department of Environmental Science and teaches Environmental Science and Science, Technology, and Society. Her research interests include sustainable consumption, food waste, urban biodiversity, and green spaces.

Jean

Jean Meir Jardeleza Mijares is the Program Manager for the Climate and Disaster Resilience Program Program. She obtained her bachelor's and master's degree in Environmental Science from Ateneo de Manila University. She is also a lecturer in the Department of Environmental Science and is part of the Secretariat of the ASEAN University Network on Ecological Education and Culture (AUN-EEC). Her research interests are on disaster resilience and land cover change.

Emman

Dr. Emmanuel D. Delocado is the Program Manager for Sustainable Development Goals. He received his bachelor’s degree and his Ph.D. in Biology from the Ateneo de Manila University. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Biology and a project leader at the Ateneo Biodiversity Research Laboratory. He specializes in freshwater insect systematics, and his research interests include biodiversity conservation, reconciliation ecology, and education for sustainable development. He is the incoming Country Network Manager of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network Philippines.

Achoot

Dr. Maria Assunta C. Cuyegkeng is a professor at the Department of Educational Leadership and Management of the Gokongwei Brothers School of Education and Learning Design (GBSEALD). She is the Executive Director of the Lily Gokongwei Ngochua Leadership Academy and the ASEAN University Network on Ecological Education and Culture (AUN-EEC). She is also  the Managing Editor of the Journal of Management for Global Sustainability. In 2013 she helped establish the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability and became its Director from 2013 to 2021. She was Vice President for the Loyola Schools of the Ateneo de Manila University from 2006-2010.

Achoot obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Chemistry from Ateneo de Manila University and her doctoral degree in Chemistry from the University of Regensburg in Germany.  Her current research and teaching interests are in the fields of leadership, systems thinking, social entrepreneurship, and sustainability.

Jairus Josol_pic

Jairus Carmela Josol is the Climate Change and Disaster Resilience Networking Officer of the Climate and Disaster Resilience Program. She has master's degrees in Environmental Science from Ateneo de Manila University and Climate Change from Australian National University. Her research interests are systems thinking, climate and disaster risk management, sustainability science, and natural resources governance.

Daniel

 

Daniel Chen Ratilla is the Program Officer for the Climate and Disaster Resilience Program. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, and his master's degree in Environmental Management from Ateneo de Manila University. His research interests include urban ecology, climate communication, environmental management, and inter- and trans-disciplinary research.

Janina

 

Janina Carla M. Castro is the Program Officer for Campus Sustainability. She received her undergraduate degree in Environmental Science from the Ateneo de Manila University. She is passionate about science communication and assists in the various online and offline campus sustainability programs. Her interests include wildlife conservation, habitat restoration, urban biodiversity, and nature education.

Javi Baquiran

Raul Javier H. Baquiran is the Program Officer for the Sustainable Development Goals. He is also part of the Secretariat of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network Philippines (SDSN-PH) and the ASEAN University Network on Ecological Education and Culture (AUN-EEC). He received his bacherlor's degree in Psychology from the University of the Philippines Diliman, and is set to begin medical studies at the UP College of Medicine. His interests include mental health and mindfulness, social psychology and public health.

Mai Baticulon

Marimar E. Baticulon is a Business Development officer at the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability. She also serves as the 3Zero Philippines Coordinator for the 3Zero Global Alliance co-founded by ACTED and Gawad Kalinga. She is a part-time instructor at the John Gokongwei School of Management and teaches environmental accounting to sustainability management students. Prior to these, she was a corporate sustainability professional with the SM Sustainability Office at SM Investments Corporation, working with the retail, mining, banking, property, logistics, and leisure businesses of the group.  She holds a master's degree in Sustainability Management and a bachelor's degree in Management Engineering from Ateneo de Manila University. Her interests include sustainability education, social enterprises, circular economy and climate action.

Denise Galias

Mary Denise D. Galias is a digital artist and communicator in the field of Human Rights and Climate.  She graduated with a Degree in Diplomacy and International Relations with a specialization in East and Southeast Asian studies.  She found the melding of her two passions, art and society, in her work as a communications person in various NGOs.  She is currently the Communications Officer of the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability.

Charmaine

Charmaine Marie A. Duñgo is the Office Assistant of the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Miriam College. Previously, she provided executive office and administrative support to the Customer Business Development-Research and Analytics Division of ABS-CBN Corporation.

Interns

Sophia Therese S. Saguinsin is a Social Media and Science Communication intern. She led the team behind “Alimbukad,” the first-ever environmental webinar series of the Ateneo Senior High School. She is currently taking up a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at the Ateneo de Manila University. Her advocacies include zero-waste living, mental health awareness, accessible healthcare, and animal welfare. In the future, she dreams of becoming a medical doctor to pay it forward.

 

Lance B. Arevada is a Social Media and Science Communication Intern. He is currently a second-year student taking up a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication, majoring in Journalism and Advertising and Public Relations, at the Ateneo de Manila University. As an up-and-coming young journalist, Lance has incorporated his advocacies for sustainable development and environmental conservation into his works.  By further developing his skills in science communication as an intern, he aspires to ensure the delivery of factual and accurate information on various fields of science as a communication practitioner in the future.

Jankris Tiffany V. Peñaflor is a Social Media and Science Communication Intern. Currently, she is in her third year of pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at the Ateneo de Manila University. She grew an interest in sustainable development, clean energy, and wildlife conservation since high school. Later, she developed her skills in science communication by doing creative work for university organizations such as the Ateneo Environmental Science Society and Ateneo Chemistry Society. In the future, she dreams of using her skills in graphic design and digital art to promote awareness about her advocacies.
