The discussion will be on the representation and visibility of LGBTQ+ community in the mediascape, particularly the Thai BL industry, over the years. What started as a cultural community rooted in the consumption of BL media from Japan, this talk will focus on changes in the depiction of queer representation in Thai BL mediascape over the years – from imposing heteronormative aesthetics to the greater acceptance of diversity – that take place both the production process and representation.
The lecture will be given by Dr Kwannie Krairit, a Lecturer at the International College for Sustainability Studies at Srinakharinwirot University, Thailand. Her research focuses on the adaptation process and the consumption of popular media, transnational media and products in Thailand.
