Laro, Lingap, Laya: Workshops to Rewild the Theater
The world of the performing arts has not been the same since the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many issues were revealed to be more urgent than expected; some revered names and traditions have become corrupted. Our tolerance for harm has profoundly changed. Why should artists not change along with it?
It will take more than gainful ticket sales to heal our broken landscape. We need artists and creatives to forge a more playful, regenerative, and participatory path forward.
Will you join our band of champions on this exciting mission?

About the Team
As one of the recipients of Areté's Sandbox Residency Grants, the team behind Laro, Lingap, Laya seeks to challenge traditional modes of theater production and theatrical knowledge by drawing partial inspiration from the behavioral and mythological landscapes of games. Their project involves creating co-learning spaces that are more inclusive, playful, open-ended, and collaborative, aimed at engaging with educational and grassroots communities. (Read more)
About the Sandbox Residency Grants
Areté supports collaborations that involve research, incorporate artistic processes and interventions, and engage communities outside the academic and artistic worlds.
Areté's Sandbox Residency Grants provide first-time applicants with funding for exploring a problem space that may generate innovation and creative solutions within a period of one (1) year. The potential innovation lends itself not only to interdisciplinarity but also to the bridging of bridges across disciplines, displaying how the fields within the humanities, sciences, social sciences, and management may be merged in its possible outcome or expression.
