Abstract:
After being hit by a pandemic, more Filipinos have realized the value of insurance in mitigating life’s uncertainties. Access to information about insurance products and ability to purchase them also improved as insurers take advantage of increased social media use and of trend towards digitalization. But question on the reasonability of insurance premiums usually arises. How do insurers set those premiums? This session aims to give an overview on how insurers generally set the price for life insurance products. While session starts with the quantitative aspect of assessing profitability, it also highlights other considerations relating to marketability and customer-centricity.

About the Speaker:
Paul Luzon is currently an Assistant Vice President for Product Pricing in EastWest Ageas Insurance. He has over 10 years of experience in life insurance industry, covering product pricing, valuation, IFRS17 and capital management. He graduated BS Mathematics from Ateneo de Manila University, and was a Financial Aid and DOST-SEI Merit scholar. He is a designated Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and of the Actuarial Society of the Philippines (ASP).
