Launch of KULeuven-Ateneo Center for Catholic Theology and Social Justice + Public Lecture on Hope
Everyone is invited to the historic launch of the KULeuven-Ateneo Center for Catholic Theology and Social Justice with Directors Prof Ruben Mendoza of ADMU and Prof. Stephan van Erp of KU Leuven. This will take place on 17 November 2023, Friday, 3 pm, at Escaler Hall, Ateneo de Manila University. It will be followed by a public lecture by Prof Mary Doak, PhD, of the University of San Diego, CA. She will lecture on “The Gift of Hope: the Power of ‘the Most Humble Virtue.’”
Abstract of Prof Doak's Lecture:
Pope Francis has described hope as the humblest of the theological virtues. Yet without this “humble” virtue, we remain paralyzed by despair, especially in the face of the enormity of our current global injustice, inequality, and environmental destruction. As great witnesses throughout Christian history have shown, hope in God’s promised future has the power to inspire the creation of life-giving possibilities in the most hopeless situations. Where can we today find the resources to cultivate this gift of hope in our time, so that we will be empowered to transform our death-dealing status quo into a future in which all can flourish?
