Pesta Igal 2023 at Areté

Areté, in partnership with the University of the Philippines Asian Studies and Tanghalang Ateneo, presents Pesta Igal 2023!

Witness the movements of Radzmina Tanjili and Kiram Ignacio, Sama Bangingi dance masters from the Sama Community of San Andres, Manila, as they express the Bajau's heritage, worldview, and cultural memory through dance.

Immerse in the beat of Kontra-GaPi (Kontemporaryong Gamelang Pilipino) under Professor Pedro "Edru" R. Abraham, Anima Tierra, Novo Concertante, and Maestro Lester Demetillo, founder of the University of the Philippines Guitar Orchestra, who will perform the rhythms accompanying the traditional dances.

Showcasing the new choreographic pieces of Dr. MCM Santamaria will be Ateneo's newest group, the Blue Igal, in their inaugural performance for Pesta Igal 2023.

Join us for this night of vibrant celebration of Sama Dance and Music on November 22, 2023, at 7:00 P.M. in Hyundai Hall, Areté. This event is free and open to the public.
