My Climate Risk (MCR) is a lighthouse activity of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP). It aims to develop and mainstream a ‘bottom-up’ approach to regional climate risk, which starts with a better understanding of local contexts and the requirements of decision-makers. Ateneo de Manila University, through the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS), hosts the MCR-ADMU Hub, one of the hubs in the Asia-Pacific region.
This year, the Hub is bringing back its two webinar series, among which is the “Climate Research 'As If People Mattered'” series. For 2024, Climate Research aims to give participants examples of how to consider the different contexts and experiences of climate change in research and management, exploring the intersections between climate, gender, and economics. All sessions will be livestreamed on Facebook, and replays will be made available on YouTube at a later date.
Interested parties may register for the Climate Research series at this link: linktr.ee/MCR_ADMU. Registered participants will be able to enter the Zoom room and view the session with assistance from Filipino Sign Language interpreters.
Webinar Schedules:
Climate Research "As If People Mattered"
Webinar 1: Households' Preferences and Willingness to Pay for Renewable Energy Technologies: Contingent Valuation and Choice Experiment Surveys
24 April 2024 (Wed), 4:00-5:30pm (GMT +8, Philippine Standard Time)
The Climate Research series begins with an exploration in energy and economics: what does the data say about our willingness to pay for renewable energy? We will be joined by Dr. Rosalina Palanca-Tan, a colleague from the Department of Economics. In this session, we will have a glimpse into Dr. Palanca-Tan’s research as we explore renewable energy as a climate change mitigation strategy.
Webinar 2: Gendering Climate Change Impacts: Placing Women's Human Rights at the Forefront
03 May 2024 (Fri), 4:00-5:30pm (GMT +8, Philippine Standard Time)
Climate impacts are and will continue to be felt unequally around the world, whether among and within countries. This is particularly true when we consider the impacts that will be felt by women, and an important aspect of climate justice is the question of gender. In this session, we welcome our colleague from the Ateneo Law School, Atty. Ryan Jeremiah Quan, as he discusses using a human rights-based approach in analyzing the situation of women affected by climate change.
Webinar 3: Efficient Energy Transition, Science, and Stakeholder Engagement: The Case of Philippine Electricity Policy
08 May 2024 (Wed), 4:00-5:30pm (GMT +8, Philippine Standard Time)
We close the webinar series with our colleague from the Department of Economics and incumbent president of the Development Academy of the Philippines, Dr. Majah-Leah V. Ravago. What does the energy transition look like for the Philippines? What factors are at play? Join us as we take a deep dive into the science, stakeholder engagement, and policy angle on the energy issue.
