Abstract:
Creating Shared Value (CSV) requires organizations to simultaneously generate economic value while addressing societal challenges (Porter & Kramer, 2011). Successful implementation of shared value strategies (SVS) hinges on five conditions identified by Mühlbacher & Böbel (2018). This qualitative multiple case study examined the management practices of selected Filipina Muslim social entrepreneurs against these conditions.
Thematic analysis of data from eight purposely sampled interview participants confirmed the presence of the five conditions:(1) Entrepreneurial vision, (2) Strategic alignment, (3) Shared value-oriented innovation, (4) Networking capabilities, and (5) Impact monitoring. Notably, the findings revealed that these women entrepreneurs conducted their businesses in alignment with their religious and cultural identity. Despite facing common challenges in balancing their business and community needs, the success of SVS appeared rooted in their distinctive leadership.
The study proposes an expansion to the Mühlbacher & Böbel (2018) framework by adding the Identity of the Social Entrepreneur as a necessary sixth condition. This identity is shown to shape how they craft their entrepreneurial vision, pursue strategic alignment, build networking capabilities, foster shared value–driven innovation, and assess performance and impact—all factors collectively determining the success of the SVS.
