The Areté is delighted to announce the return to the stage and the rebirth of Nick Joaquin's classic play "A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino," through a new translation and perspective, entitled:

QUOMODO DESOLATA ES? Isang Dalamhati

The play "A Portrait.." was adapted and directed by Guelan Varela-Luarca as a lament flowing between memory and present, literature and history, based on Jerry Respeto's Filipino translation.

Quomodo Desolata Es?  — a question without certainty — answered by a lament filled with dignity, conviction, and love for the country and art. Amid changing times, Quomodo Desolata Es? Isang Dalamhati is an invitation for us to revisit our roots and ask again: What is the value of memory? Of art? Of permanence?

"A Portrait..." was first performed by the Barangay Theater Guild in 1955 at Aurora Gardens, Intramuros. In recent decades, it has become a major text in the country's contemporary theater. Almost 70 years after its first performance, the curtain will rise once again this year, offering a new language, form, and perspective.

FILIPINO

Buong galak na ipinababatid ng Areté ang pagbabalik sa entablado at muling pagsilang ng klasikong dula ni Nick Joaquin na "A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino," sa pamamagitan ng isang bagong salin at pananaw, and:

QUOMODO DESOLATA ES?  Isang Dalamhati
