The 6th Andrea O Veneracion International Choral Festival
The Andrea O Veneracion International Choral Festival (AOVICF) is a biennial gathering that celebrates the power of voices united in harmony. Established to honor National Artist for Music Andrea O Veneracion, founder of the world-renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers, the festival has become one of Asia’s premier stages for choral artistry, intercultural exchange, and cultural pride.
Now in its sixth edition, AOVICF welcomes 35 choirs from the Philippines and abroad, carrying forward its mission of promoting choral excellence and global dialogue through music.
This year’s festival features six competition categories:
- Children’s Choir – choirs composed of singers aged 14 and below
- Equal Voices – ensembles of singers aged 15 and above performing within the same vocal range
- Folk Song and Indigenous Music – ensembles highlighting traditional and cultural repertoires
- Mixed Choir – SATB ensembles showcasing varied choral textures
- Musica Sacra – sacred works from different historical periods
- Popular Music – choral reinterpretations of contemporary and familiar pieces.
While structured as a competition, the festival places equal importance on its role as a forum for cultural encounter. Through workshops, masterclasses, and special ceremonies, choirs will engage with one another beyond the stage, creating opportunities for dialogue and collaboration. AOVICF Manila 2025 also marks the debut of the Composition Competition.
The festival is organized by the Cultural Center of the Philippines, in collaboration with the Philippine Madrigal Singers and Ateneo de Manila University, through its creativity and innovation hub, Areté. Together, these institutions aim to promote the choral art as both an educational pursuit and a form of cultural diplomacy—bridging communities through the universal language of song.
The Andrea O Veneracion International Choral Festival continues to honor its namesake’s vision: that choral music, rooted in tradition yet open to innovation, can serve as a medium for cultural pride and international solidarity. In convening choirs from diverse contexts, the 2025 festival affirms music’s enduring ability to transcend boundaries and bring communities together in harmony.
