Sisa: Panaghoy ng Pinakamiserableng Babaeng Katha ni Rizal
The Office of the Dean of the School of Humanities of Ateneo de Manila University, in collaboration with the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, Department of Fine Arts, and Department of Filipino invite you to:
Sisa: Panaghoy ng Pinakamiserableng Babaeng Katha ni Rizal
Written by Dr. Allan Derain and Dr. Rowena Festin
Directed by Dr. Missy Maramara
Performed by Ms. Camille Abaya
Born from literature, memory, and grief, Sisa returns to the figure of Rizal’s most wounded mother and listens to her again, this time through the voices of women whose lives have been shaped by violence in our own time. Drawing from the lived experiences of mothers affected by state violence in the Philippines and by the Israel–Palestine conflict, the performance asks how mourning, love, and resistance endure across history.
A solo theatrical performance staged by the Ateneo de Manila University School of Humanities, Sisa builds on a version first presented at the 2025 Frankfurt Book Fair. The piece invites reflection on suffering, justice, and the fragile dignity of the human condition.
