Published in 2023 by the Ateneo de Manila University Press, the three-volume Sine Tala series builds a holistic knowledge of Philippine cinema and addresses the historical, cultural, and pedagogical aspects of the country’s popular culture form. The essays in each volume explore subjects that have been Deocampo’s preoccupations in his intellectual and academic life. This volume traces the historical developments of cinema from its proto-cinematic origins in the Asian art of shadow puppetry to the contemporary virtual world of digital technology, reflecting on the nuances that arise from the social changes affecting the nature and growth of motion pictures.
The Sine Tala series will be available for purchase on-site at ₱1800/set.
This public program is part of the Ateneo Art Gallery's Moving Image Program, a presentation of film, video works, and lectures that explore moving image as a medium in contemporary art practice.
