Academic Program

Ateneo de Manila Junior High School’s Academic Program encompasses ten (10) subject areas: Araling Panlipunan, Art, Christian Life Education, Computer Education, English, Filipino, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, and Science.

Aligned with the Profile of the Ateneo de Manila Basic Education Graduate, these disciplines aim to mold completers who are not only intellectually and academically COMPETENT but also possess a well-formed CONSCIENCE. They are encouraged to demonstrate the courage to uphold righteousness and to right what is wrong, exhibit COMPASSION towards others, particularly the poor and disadvantaged, and live out their COMMITMENT to their life's purpose, to God, and to society, rooted in a CHRIST-CENTERED identity.

The academic curriculum adheres to the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm, which adapts to the evolving needs of students and the world, leveraging their learning experiences to foster holistic growth and realization of their potential across various domains. Teaching strategies prioritize active learner engagement, empowering students to question, discover, reflect, and apply their learning, thereby facilitating personal growth and nurturing independence, paving the way for a lifelong pursuit of knowledge.

Curriculum

The Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (IPP) is Ateneo Junior High School’s approach to education. It encompasses the way the school operates, including its teaching methods.

Araling Panlipunan

Christian Life Education

Guided by the dynamic grace of God and the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Christian Life Education accompanies students on a journey of discernment—inviting them into a personal encounter with Christ, formed by the sacraments and Catholic tradition, while fostering reverence for the sacred in all faiths.

We form contemplatives in action: individuals who seek God in all things, practice cura personalis (care for the whole person), and respond with the Magis (greater love) to build a just, compassionate, and interfaith-connected world.

Special Programs

AJHS recognizes the individual’s unique talents and needs in the various areas of study. For this reason, special courses for capable students are offered through the Advanced Programs in Grades 8 to 10. Anchored on the Ignatian value of magis, these programs aim to foster an environment of excellence by maximizing the potential of students with exceptional skills in the areas of English, Filipino, Mathematics, and Science, and to prepare them for more specialized tracks and courses in the higher levels (i.e., Senior High School and University).

Students who belong to these programs are "pulled out" from their regular classes to join the advanced track. These advanced classes follow a distinct curriculum that applies a higher standard in developing content knowledge and skills compared to the regular program. This means that the expected learning outcomes focus on conceptual and theoretical topics that strongly demand higher-order thinking. These programs also include more challenging individual and group requirements and assessments.

Due to the more challenging workload, students who belong to these programs are given additional points in their final subject mark at the end of each grading period. In addition, only students who belong to these programs may qualify for the highest academic award and subject excellence awards given during the Grade 10 Closing Ceremony.
