Admission to the Master of Laws Program

Eligibility for Admission

To qualify for admission to the Master of Laws (LL.M.) Program, the applicant must have completed a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor degree from a recognized law school and have successfully passed the Bar Examinations.

Applicants from foreign jurisdictions that allow law practice without completing a law degree and/or taking the Bar may apply.

The Ateneo LL.M. Program may be completed full-time in one year or part-time for up to five years.

Requirements for Admission

The Ateneo LL.M. Program application period for the First Semester of AY 2024-2025 will start on 25 March 2024 and will end on 20 July 2024.

The applicant must accomplish the online application form. Upon the creation of an applicant account, the applicant will then pay the application fee of Php 2,000.00.

Please take note that the online application system will require you to upload the following documents in PDF format only (except for the ID photo):

  • A 2x2 ID photo with red background (JPEG or PNG format only)
  • Complete official Transcript of Records (and English translation, if necessary)
  • Certified true copy of diplomas obtained after secondary education (and English translation, if necessary)
  • Certificate of admission to the Bar
  • For foreign applicants, an equivalent certification attesting to their qualification to practice law in their jurisdiction will suffice.
  • Personal statement (tips for drafting personal statements may be found here)
  • LL.M. thesis proposal
  • Updated curriculum vitae

In addition to the foregoing requirements, foreign applicants must also submit the following:

  • Official TOEFL or IELTS score report (or equivalent)
  • Duly authenticated visa requirements

The Ateneo School of Law is offering limited financial aid grants for LL.M. students, based on financial need and academic merit. Should you intend to apply for this, the details may be found here. Queries may be addressed to the ALS Financial Aid Committee at finaid.law@ateneo.edu.

As part of the online application process, you will be asked to indicate your recommenders and provide their contact details. Please make sure to indicate their institutional email addresses, where available. The recommendations must come from (i) the dean of the applicant’s school or a former professor, and (ii) someone, not a relative or friend, who knows you well enough to provide a true character reference.

While you are allowed to continue filling up your application form without having indicated your recommenders, kindly note that your application will not be deemed complete until the Graduate Legal Studies Institute has received the accomplished recommendation forms directly from two recommenders. Further, the current application cycle utilizes the online recommendation form. Recommendation letters sent via email will not be considered.

All applications for the Second Semester of AY 2023-24 must be made online and submitted, along with the required documents, by 15 January 2024.

Interviews and Offers for Admission

After the successful completion, submission, and review of the online application, the applicant will then be contacted through the primary email address indicated in the application form for the interview schedule.

Interviews and offers for admission may be done on a rolling basis.
