Message From the Director

Body

If you get the opportunity, try talking to students in the Development Studies (DS) Program and there’s a good chance you will hear them talk about their passion about “changing the world.”

To us, this statement is not merely a slogan.  DS students are involved in various advocacies ranging from social entrepreneurship to health and development and from to urban planning to human rights.  Naturally, our graduates are in development-related sectors such as international development organizations, non-government organizations (NGO), corporate social responsibility, social enterprises, law, and the various agencies of the government. The desire to make a difference in the world today is also evident among DS lecturers many of whom run their own NGOs and social enterprises.  We are also involved in research in the areas of disaster risk reduction, urban studies, education, cultural heritage, governance, and democracy.

If you join us, you will be exposed to the different ways of thinking and doing development through such classes as Social Innovations, Social Marketing, Social Entrepreneurship, Community Development and Social Change, Project Management, Development Finance, and Strategic Leadership.  These classes and more will help you acquire new skills and direct your passion at clear advocacies where you can make a difference.

Lest I forget, DS as a community is also known for being very collegial and resourceful.  A quarter of a century since we were established, DS is now a wide network of development professionals who are out there changing the world.

I invite you to pursue the same passion by choosing Development Studies.  Make your undergraduate degree count and make a difference today.
