Body

The Ateneo School of Social Sciences forms problem solvers and change makers responding to local and global realities. Harnessing multidisciplinary perspectives, we develop innovative thinking and interventions which enable human flourishing and contribute to equitable and inclusive societies.

We are a diverse, vibrant, and collaborative community working towards a just and inclusive society by providing accessible, holistic, and transformative education, and producing actionable knowledge with local and global impact.
We are the largest of the nine schools of Ateneo de Manila University in terms of academic degree offerings. Our student body constitutes about a third of the total undergraduate student population, and almost half of the total graduate student population of the university. We have 6 academic departments, 6 academic programs, and 8 centers with 30 graduate degree programs, 15 undergraduate degree programs, 14 minor programs, 4 field schools, and several extramural Asian language courses.
Our 5 research thrusts in support of the 4 Lux in Domino 2030 strategic priority areas are:
  • Collective identity, memory and cultures (Bridging cultural divides)
  • Environment, society and planetary well-being (Integral ecology)
  • Human interventions and social inclusion (Universal health and well-being, Education reform and transformation)
  • Global flows, economies and modernities (Bridging cultural divides)
  • Governance, institutions and democracy (Bridging cultural divides)
Our work in these thrusts is characterized by a focus on fostering a sense of belonging, translocal and transnational engagements as a way to understand the Philippines better, and the problem-solving mode in the social sciences.
