Applying for the Minor in Japanese Studies
While students may apply for a Minor/Specialization any time, Freshmen are advised to wait until the end of the school year before applying for a Minor/Specialization. This will give departments/programs more basis (in terms of grades) for evaluating your request.
Deadlines
Non-graduating students: Anytime during the semester (non-peak season, if possible)
For graduating students: April 30 (or ASAP)
Guidelines
(Excerpt from the LS Undergraduate Student Handbook)
1. A program leading to a Minor requires between 12 and 18 units in the field of minor study, provided no more than 6 units are within the student’s regular program of study (i.e., the core and major curricula). Free electives may be used to count towards the Minor. For programs without free electives, two Interdisciplinary Electives can count towards the Minor in addition to the 6 units mentioned above.
2. At least twelve (12) units leading to the Minor/Specialization must be completed in residence at the ADMU Loyola Schools. These twelve units are inclusive of the six (6) units that may be taken from the student’s regular program of study as specified above.
3. Double counting of courses between two Minors/Specializations is not allowed (i.e., a required/elective course for one Minor/ Specialization may not be counted towards the completion of another Minor/Specialization). In the event that the same course is required by a student’s second Minor Program, the student must take an additional course to replace that required course.
Minimum Grade Requirement – C (For all courses taken for Minor)
Completion of the Minor/Specialization
1. All courses required for the Minor/Specialization must be completed by the time the student completes his/her Major Program.
2. A student may not enroll for an additional academic term to complete his/her Minor/Specialization after he/she has already graduated from the Loyola Schools.
These revised guidelines are applicable to students assigned to the 2018 and later curriculum versions of LS undergraduate programs. For students assigned to earlier curriculum versions, the 2004 guidelines for Minors and Specializations still apply.
