Ateneo and the UN Sustainable Development Goals

No Poverty

No Poverty

End poverty in all its forms everywhere

Ateneo has pledged to support SDG 1 by providing scholarships and support services to low-income students, including those who are first-generation students. Moreover, Ateneo is devoted to helping local start-ups through initiatives like the Ateneo Center of Social Entrepreneurship (ACSEnt) and Ateneo Tulong Sulong. Additionally, the University has contributed to promoting food and shelter security through the efforts of ACED and Gawad Kalinga, which further support SDG 1.

Bottom Quintile Admission Target and Growth Plan (SY 2023–2030)

Starting from SY 2023–2024, Ateneo strengthened its scholarship and financial aid framework to ensure inclusive access for students from financially vulnerable families. Under a substantive  allocation for Scholarship Grants, the University set measurable targets to expand the proportion of scholars from 25% of the total student population in SY 2023–2024 to 31% by SY 2029–2030.

Scholarship Budget and Financial Aid

The Strategic Plan sets aside about billions worth scholarship funds from 2025 to 2030. This investment is meant to steadily grow the number of scholars by around 10% each year, alongside a 5% annual increase in the total student population. Each incoming scholar is expected to receive an average of ₱100,000 in financial assistance per year. The funding will be released in phases  to ensure sustainability and expanded access over time.

Focus on Bottom 20% Inclusion

Ateneo’s admissions and financial aid framework explicitly aligns with its commitment to the bottom financial quintile by:

  • Prioritizing need-based scholarships for students from the lowest income brackets
  • Expanding outreach through Pathways to Higher Education and regional partner schools
  • Ensuring equitable access through a blended aid scheme combining tuition remission, food allowances, and mentoring support
