About Ateneo Chinese Studies

Established in 1987, the Ateneo de Manila University Chinese Studies Program boasts of contributions both inside and outside the campus.

In coordination with the relevant disciplines across the Loyola Schools, the Program offers courses discussing topics and interests related to China. Taking off from the rich culture and history China has to offer, the Program offers an interdisciplinary approach to learning about China, its society, and its language to bring about a holistic understanding of one of the world’s biggest economy.

Understanding bridges gaps. By bringing understanding, the Ateneo Chinese Studies Program is able to produce culture-sensitive and globally conscious leaders who understand their role in society. Students of the Chinese Studies Program are equipped with practical knowledge and skills necessary to face a globally competitive and volatile world.

The ability to offer courses responsive to the needs of the times is bolstered by a culture of research and study that inheres in the Program. The Chinese Studies Program maintains a journal dedicated to publication of researches and studies of China, its language, arts, and society that are integrative of humanities, business, and the sciences. The Program also maintains linkages with like-minded institutions of higher learning for corroboration and mutual endeavors.

Engagements with the community are made through conferences and fora; training programs for trainers; and continuing education for professionals.
