SUBJECT:

PAASCU Visit 2025 for FA and ECCE

A little over a week ago, we had an accreditation visit by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU) for our Graduate Programs in the School of Humanities, Gokongwei Brothers School of Education and Learning Design, John Gokongwei School of Management, School of Science and Engineering, and Dr Rosita G Leong School of Social Sciences.

This week, specifically on Thursday, 3 and Friday, 4 April, another group of PAASCU accreditors will be on our Loyola Campus to do a Re-Survey visit for the Fine Arts (FA) Department in the School of Humanities (SOH) and the Electronics, Computer, and Communications Engineering (ECCE) Department in the School of Science and Engineering (SOSE).

In 2022, a formal survey was done for FA and ECCE programs. They were granted Level 1 status by the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP). These programs will now be undergoing a Resurvey. The Computer Engineering (CpE) program of ECCE, meanwhile, will be submitted for a Preliminary Survey.

During this visit, there will be 5 accreditors for FA and another 5 for ECCE. Using the new accreditation instrument, the PAASCU accreditors are going to look into the following areas of inquiry: leadership and governance, quality assurance, resource management, teaching-learning, student services, external relations, research, and results. The main headquarters of the accreditors is Faber Hall 101, which is also the main exhibit hall for evidence of achievements in FA and ECCE. Other exhibits will be displayed in the program areas and interview rooms. The opening and closing ceremonies will be in Faber Hall 302.

In preparation for this visit, we acknowledge the involvement of many; chief among these are the Office of the Strategy and Quality Management Office (SQMO), the Office of the Assistant VP for Undergraduate Education, and the self-survey report committees to PAASCU.

In Support of the Visit
I would like to remind the faculty and administrators in FA and ECCE to

  1. Take time to read and familiarize themselves with the reports.

  2. Have a copy available of the course syllabus and plan for the class in their classrooms (either online/Canvas or onsite) on the day of the visit.

  3. Teach in the assigned classrooms during the accreditation days as the PAASCU accreditors have been given the assigned classrooms for the classes that they have chosen to observe; start and end the classes on time.  For those teaching online as indicated in their syllabi, we expect them to follow a similar decorum of presence and punctuality. Onsite class observations begin at 9 am of Day 1.

  4. Inform students about the forthcoming accreditation and remind them of the usual respect and warm hospitality that we accord any visitors.

Please note that accreditors have access to the Canvas accounts of faculty in FA and ECCE. So, they may even be doing classroom observations ahead of the scheduled visit.

Aside from class observations, the accreditors will also have interviews with faculty, students, and administrators. I would like to request that all make time for the interviews.

Vote of Trust
Let’s support the FA and ECCE with our vote of trust in the good work that they do, and in their desire to do better through this accreditation process.

We rally behind for success!
