Matthew General secures gold at Coach Benny Fencing Competition

Two Ateneo de Manila Senior High School (ASHS) student-athletes delivered standout performances at the “Ang Maestro: Coach Benny Fencing Competition,” held from 15-16 November 2025 at the Fencing Hall of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) in ULTRA, Pasig City. , serving as a competitive arena for the region's rising fencing talents.
In the U17 Sabre Men’s Individual category, Matthew General (12-Miki) showcased exceptional skill and composure to claim the Gold medal. He was joined on the podium by teammate Ygi Estrada (11-Campion), who fought through a challenging field to secure the Bronze medal. Their success came after facing off against a diverse pool of athletes representing various prestigious fencing clubs and UAAP schools from across Metro Manila.
The achievements of these fencers reflect the rigorous training and guidance provided by the Ateneo Fencing Team’s coaching staff. The team is led by Edward Daliva and Rebekah Reyno for Sabre, Alexander Ragot for Epee, and Rupert Endriano for Foil. By medaling in this invitational, General and Estrada have once again demonstrated the strength of the Blue Eagles' fencing program on the local circuit.
