31 Mar 2026
Fencers from across Ateneo de Manila Basic Education demonstrated their competitive edge at the 1st Estudio de Espada Fencing League, held from 31 January to 1 February 2026 at the P&S Building in New Manila, Quezon City.
The Ateneo contingent made its presence felt early in the Grade School division, where Julian Roxas (2-Apitong) showcased remarkable versatility by securing two Bronze medals in the Individual Sabre U8 and U10 categories.
The momentum continued in the Junior High School division as Ethan Santos (7-Aranha) earned a Silver medal in the Individual Men’s Sabre U-14 category. Santos also stepped up to compete in the more advanced Junior Event for the same weapon, where he successfully clinched a Bronze medal.
The Senior High School (ASHS) fencers further bolstered the school’s medal haul in the Epee events. Rana Rafael (12-Evans) fought her way to a Bronze medal in the Individual Women’s Epee Junior Event, while Hannah Belarmino (12-Ogilvie) delivered a strong performance in the Senior Event to claim a Bronze medal of her own.
These podium finishes were achieved under the expert guidance of the Ateneo Fencing Team coaching staff, featuring Edward Daliva and Rebekah Reyno for sabre, Rupert Endriano for foil, and Alexander Ragot for epee. The school community congratulates these student-athletes for their dedication and for their continued excellence on the fencing strip.
The event drew a wide array of athletes from various accredited Philippine fencing clubs, providing them a fresh platform to test their skills in both age-group and open categories.
