Ateneo de Manila Senior High School standout Matthew General (12-Miki) added another gold medal to his decorated season at the Excalibur Fencing Tournament, held from 21-22 February 2026. The competition took place at the Excalibur Fencing Sports Center along Chino Roces Avenue in Makati City, drawing a competitive field of participants from various accredited Philippine fencing clubs.
Competing in the Individual Junior Sabre category, General showcased the technical mastery and strategic composure that have become his trademarks on the strip. His path to the Gold medal required navigating a series of high-intensity bouts against some of the most promising young fencers in the country, further solidifying his position as a premier talent in the junior circuit.
The Excalibur Fencing Tournament is recognized for its rigorous competition standards, providing an essential arena for student-athletes to sharpen their skills outside of the collegiate league. General’s victory in this prestigious club-level meet serves as a testament to his consistent work ethic and competitive drive.
His success was well-supported by the Ateneo Fencing Team’s comprehensive coaching staff, led by sabre coaches Edward Daliva and Rebekah Reyno, foil coach Rupert Endriano, and epee coach Alexander Ragot.
