ASOG conducts workshop on tobacco taxation in Southeast Asia

teneo School of Government (ASog) through the Ateneo Policy Center (APC), in partnership with Canada’s International Development Research Center (IDRC), held its first capacity building workshop on July 25, 2019, for the three-year “Advancing Tobacco Taxation in Southeast Asia (ATT-SEA)” project, which aims to provide evidence for tax policy discussions surrounding tobacco in the region.
Guided by the Expert Advisory Board members, the research fellows were able to discuss their research proposals and methodologies which will be used in implementing their research in their respective home countries. The capacity-building event also served as an avenue for the young researchers to know more about the economics of tobacco.
Madiha Ahmed, Senior Programme Specialist of Canada’s International Research Centre, was able to discuss to the expert advisory board and research fellows regarding gender integration in tobacco control research. While, Dr. Ulysses Dorothero, Executive Director of South East ASia Tobacco Control Alliance (SEATCA), shared his experience and knowledge on effective tobacco control policy engagement and advocacy.
