AGS golfer Race Manhit is back-to-back champ of San Francisco tourney

Representing the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila Grade School golfer Race Manhit (4-Rajah Matanda) won several golf championships in the USA in June and July 2022. On June 24, he placed 2nd in the boys 7- 9 division of the Mountain View Golf Championships held at Shoreline Golf Links in Mountain View, California. On June 25, he placed 1st in the boys 9 division of the US Kids Pacific Grove Golf Championship held in Monterey, California.

On July 22, Race was able to defend his title in the boys' 7-9 division of the 93rd San Francisco Junior Golf Championship. He was the champion of the same division last year during the competition’s 92nd edition.  

Race was also a member of the 40-man Junior Golf Team that represented the Philippines at the IMG Junior World Golf Championships held from July 12 to 14, 2022 in San Diego, California, and the Future Champions Golf (FCG) International Junior Golf Championship held from July 6 to 7, 2022, also in San Diego. Race is currently ranked 70th globally out of 115 boys in the boys 9-10 division.

The San Diego Junior Golf Association founded the Junior World Golf Championship in 1968 to connect young golfers from all parts of the world by providing the youth with a culturally diverse, premier golf experience. In its inaugural year, the event attracted 475 junior golfers from seven countries and 20 states. Today, the tournament has grown to 1250 participants, representing 56 countries and 42 states. The IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships is now one of the largest international events in the world and is a family affair for most of the young players -- some under 6 years old -- who travel to San Diego from across the globe.

Similarly, the FCG International Golf Championship is now one of the most popular events in junior golf, annually attracting over 600 players from more than 40 countries. Originally conceived as a warm-up event for the IMG Junior World Golf Championships, the FCG is also an event visited by college golf coaches to recruit at.
