Academia wins silver in UAAP 85 boys’ judo tourney

Three Ateneo de Manila Junior High School judokas contributed medals to the blue-and-white’s award haul in the boys’ division of the UAAP Season 85 Juniors Judo Championships, which were held in the Blue Eagle Gym on December 17 & 18, 2022. Alphonso Academia (Cardoner/9-Berno) secured silver in the -90 kg category, while Kian Matienzo (La Storta/10-Ferreres) and Antonio Violago (La Storta/9-Fausti) bagged bronzes for the -100 kg and -81 kg divisions, respectively.  

Also contributing to the Blue Eagles’ medal haul were Senior High School teammates Eupurt Asayo (12-Beyzym), Reyner Legaspi (12-Oldcorne), Malaya Mamaril (11-Gavan), and Aldwyn Thor (12-Denn), all of whom bagged bronze. Asayo’s bronze was for the -60 kg category, while Legaspi’s was for the -90 kg division. Mamaril’s bronze was for the -100 kg classification, as Thor’s was for the -73 kg weight class.      

The Blue Eagles finished their UAAP Season 85 Juniors Judo campaign in 3rd place, behind champion University of Santo Tomas (UST) and first runner-up De La Salle University.
