18 May 2023
Ateneo Blue Eagles' outgoing center Ange Kouame and former shooting guard Ferdinand "Thirdy" Ravena III are set to be honored at the Collegiate Press Corps Awards Night on 29 May 2023. The Collegiate Press Corps—composed of reporters from various outlets covering both the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)—will be holding the event for the first time in four years.
The Collegiate Press Corps Awards Night will see the Press Corps award three sets of Collegiate Basketball Mythical Five teams, covering the past three seasons when the event was not held due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Kouame will lead the Mythical Five team for 2022 to 2023. During the finals of the UAAP Season 85 men's basketball tournament, Kouame led the Blue Eagles back to the championship averaging 17.7 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks per game during the three-game finals series against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons.
Joining Kouame in the Mythical Five are Malick Diouf of the UP Fighting Maroons, Will Gozum of the College of Saint Benilde Blazers, Louie Sangalang of the Letran Knights, and Jerom Lastimosa of the Adamson Soaring Falcons.
In addition, Kouame will also be part of the Mythical Five team for the pandemic-shortened 2021 to 2022 season. He's joined by UP's Diouf and Carl Tamayo, as well as the Letran Knights' Renz Abando and Jeo Ambohot.
Ravena, who currently plays for the San-en NeoPhoenix in Japan's B.League, has been named as part of the Mythical Five team for 2019 to 2020.
During his final year with the Blue Eagles, Ravena led the team to a three-peat championship, winning his third straight finals MVP in the process. In a two-game sweep in the finals against the University of Santo Tomas (UST), Ravena averaged 24.5, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.
The remainder of the Mythical Five team for 2019 to 2020 is composed of Soulemane Chabi Yo of the UST Growling Tigers; Fran Yu, Jerrick Balanza of the Letran Knights; and Calvin Oftana of the San Beda Red Lions.
The Collegiate Press Corps Awards Night, presented by the Philippine Sports Commission and the San Miguel Corporation, will be held on 29 May 2023 at The Hummingbird Rooftop Bar in Quezon City.
