Ateneo de Manila Grade School golfer Race Manhit (5-Ifugao) placed third in the boys’ 9-10 division of the Junior Philippine Golf Tour (JPGT) Championship that was concluded on October 3, 2023, at The Country Club in Laguna City.
The day-long national finals were fought over 18 holes of stroke play under the Modified Stableford (Molave) scoring system. Eight titles in both the boys' and girls' divisions were disputed in the event, which attracted 61 young golfers from four age-group categories ranging from 9-10 to 15-18.
Of the tournament that was launched in January, Race Manhit was quoted as saying, "I enjoyed playing in the JPGT and it was my first time to participate in a drive, chip and putt tournament, which taught me to focus on accuracy vs sheer strength. I was also able to appreciate the training when I played in 18-hole tournaments." He added that the opportunity to play in the JPGT nationals also made him and the other participants feel like real pros.
Race Manhit is a member of the AGS golf varsity and has been winning tournaments both here and abroad since he was eight years old.
