Of the Mythical Five honor, Alfonso says, “This past season was filled with many ups and downs, yet my main goal throughout the year was to help my teammates grow individually, and the team to grow collectively. This prestigious award was not one that I was aiming for. Nevertheless, I am very grateful for it and very honored to be acknowledged among great players from various high schools.”

The JHS basketball tournament of UAAP Season 86 began in March 2024 and ended on 4 May 2024. The Mythical Five awarding ceremony was held at Amoranto Stadium in Quezon City following the final between NUNS and FEU-Diliman, which was won by the Bullpups.

Alfonso Tan is a member of the Blue Eagles team that won the Jesuit Athletic Meet (JAM) basketball championship held in Xavier Nuvali from 19-24 September 2023. Prior to playing at the JAM, Alfonso and the rest of the Blue Eagles represented the Philippines in the 10th Ever Glory Cup held in Taiwan from 9 -18 September. In School Year 2022-2023, when basketball tournaments like the UAAP, PRADA, and PAYA were still on hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he was one of ten Ateneans rostered in the RPBC (RP Basketball Club) team that won an amazing 10 basketball championships.
