AJHS' Alonzo Fernandez wins 8 medals in national and international jiu jitsu tournaments

16 Oct 2025

From 14 June to 21 September 2025, Ateneo de Manila Junior High School (AJHS) student-athlete Alonzo Fernandez (9-Gelabert) showcased exceptional skill, discipline, and determination in the sport of jiu jitsu, earning a total of eight medals—three gold, two silver, and three bronze—across four major national and international competitions.

His impressive run culminated in a strong showing at the World Jiu Jitsu Championship held in Chiba, Japan from 18–21 September 2025. Recognized as the largest jiu jitsu tournament in Asia, the competition drew over 6,000 athletes from across the region and beyond.

Alonzo’s winning streak began at the Manila International Jiu Jitsu Championship on 14 June 2025, where he captured two gold medals—one each in the Gi and No Gi divisions.
