ASHS Blue Eagle Yanna Dagpin makes National Team, powers PH to AFC U17 Asian Cup berth
21 Nov 2025
Ateneo de Manila Senior High School student-athlete Yanna Dagpin (11-Perez) of the Ateneo Girls’ Football Team (AGFT) has made history, becoming the first ASHS athlete to earn a spot in the U17 Philippine National Women’s Football Team (PNWFT).
In just eight days, Yanna transformed from a determined student-athlete into a full-fledged national team member, helping the Philippines secure its place on the Asian stage.
Here's how it played out. Last September, Yanna was endorsed by her club coach to try out for the national team. Her performance earned her a spot in the initial 26-player shortlist, who were then invited to a focused training camp at the Diamond Hotel from September 28 to October 9. By the end of the camp, the coaching staff finalized the U17 PNWFT roster of 23 athletes, with Yanna earning one of the coveted slots.
A day after the camp concluded, the team flew to Dushanbe, Tajikistan for the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers, held from October 10 to 17, 2025. The PNWFT delivered a stunning performance, winning all three matches with 11 goals scored and zero conceded, securing the Philippines’ place in the prestigious AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup.
Adding to the triumph, Yanna scored a goal of her own during the qualifiers, contributing directly to the team’s historic achievement and marking her presence on the international stage.
As group winners, the PNWFT officially clinched qualification for the Asian Cup in China, scheduled from April 30 to May 17, 2026.
AGFT and the entire ASHS community are immensely proud of Yanna’s dedication, excellence, and courage. We wish her and the rest of the PNWFT the very best as they prepare for the Asian Cup.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!
