Ateneans strike multiple golds at 2025 ASAPSQC Badminton Meet

At the 2025 ASAPSQC (Athletic and Sports Association of Private Schools of Quezon City) Congressional District III Badminton Meet, six Ateneans from the Ateneo de Manila Senior High School (ASHS) and Ateneo Junior High School (AJHS) captured gold medals in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions.
In the boys’ division, Jerome Caluya (12-Walpole) and Quito Ongpin (11-Brebeuf) emerged as champions in the Singles A and Singles B categories, respectively. In the doubles division, the tandem of Nate Labre (12-Arnaiz) and Red Ong (AJHS 8-Favre) claimed the doubles championship title, showcasing outstanding skill, coordination, and composure on the court.
In the girls’ division, Roj Medrano (12-Miki) captured the gold medal in Singles A, while Mia Benasa (11-Wright) also clinched gold in Singles B. In girls’ doubles, Thia Bautista (8-Dajani) and Al Alejar (12-Acquaviva) brought home the bronze medal.
The team was coached by Raul B. Albarece, with support from team captains Roj Medrano and Jerome Caluya.
Participating schools in the ASAPSQC District Meet included Ateneo de Manila, St. Bridget School, Miriam College High School, St. Pedro Poveda College, and Jesus Christ Saves Global Outreach (JCSGO) Christian Academy.
The tournament was held on 6 September 2025 at the Kalayaan Badminton Courts in Quezon City. The District Meet is an essential step on the road to the national stage, as the eventual champions will secure their places to represent Quezon City and the NCR at Palarong Pambansa 2026.
