Blue Eagles from all three Ateneo de Manila Basic Education schools—the Grade School, Junior High School, and Senior High School—brought home eight medals across six events at the Xavier School Fencing Cup held from 4 to 5 October 2025 at the Xavier School Sports Center in San Juan.
From the Ateneo Senior High School (ASHS), Mairon Moulic (12-Ogilvie) led the Blue Eagles’ medal haul with two gold medals, winning both the U-17 Men’s Sabre Individual and U-17 Men’s Sabre Team events. Julian Rosaros (12-Gonzales) earned silver in the U-17 Men’s Sabre Individual, while Ygi Estrada (11-Campion) and Matthew General (12-Miki) each secured bronze in the same category.
Notably, the Blue Eagles swept the podium in the U-17 Men’s Sabre Individual, with Moulic taking gold, Rosaros securing silver, and Estrada and General sharing the bronze.
From the Ateneo Junior High School (AJHS), Gabriel Bunagan (10-Rodrigues) won bronze in the U-16 Men’s Epee Individual and contributed to a silver finish in the U-16 Men’s Epee Team event. Gabriel Bautista (10-Pongracz) also helped clinch the team’s silver medal, while Eliam Mojica (8-Canisius) captured bronze in the U-13 Men’s Sabre Individual category.
Rounding out the medalists, the Ateneo Sabre Varsity Team earned bronze in the U-13 Sabre Team competition. The team was represented by Mojica, Ethan Santos (7-Aranha), and Bear Morales (7-Azevedo) from AJHS, and Xavier Tanseco (5-Kalinga) from Ateneo Grade School (AGS).
The Blue Eagles were coached by Edward Daliva and Rebekah Reyno for the tournament, which brought together over 300 fencers from schools, clubs and academies across Metro Manila for two intense days of competition. The Xavier School Fencing Cup featured matches across all three fencing weapons — foil, sabre, and epee — gathering youthful talent representing various schools, clubs, and academies.
For the participants from Ateneo de Manila University Basic Education, this was a major opportunity to compete at a large-scale, school based national tournament and to measure their skill against a wide field of opponents.
