AGS chess prodigies shine at ASAPSQC Unit Meet; Ponferrada advances to Division Meet

Ateneo de Manila Grade School (AGS) chess prodigies secured top honors at the recent Athletic and Sports Association of Private Schools Quezon City (ASAPSQC) Chess Unit Meet, Elementary Boys Division. The meet was held on 29 September 2025 at the Philippine Academy for Chess Excellence (PACE) in Quezon City.
Roman Ponferrada (6-Bellarmine) emerged as the Overall 1st Runner-Up (2nd place), delivering an impressive performance with six wins out of seven games. Sean Pepito (5-Dumagat) followed closely as the 2nd Runner-Up (3rd place), securing four wins and a draw out of seven games.
As one of the Top 2 winners, Roman Ponferrada has earned the honor of representing District VII in the upcoming Division Meet. This crucial stage will determine the official Quezon City representative for the NCR Regional Meet, the final step leading to the 2026 Palarong Pambansa Nationals.
In the Girls Elementary Division, Aela Manuel (1-Magalang) and Zoe Cinco (2-Duhat) proudly achieved 3rd Place, showcasing their exceptional talent and competitive spirit.
