AGS U6 girls make 'HERstory' with maiden football championship crown!
09 Feb 2026
HERstory was written as the Ateneo de Manila Grade School Girls’ Football Team captured its first-ever championship at the Ignite Cup, held on 31 January 2026 at San Jose Village in Alabang, Muntinlupa. The victory marks a milestone in Ateneo’s history and a significant step forward in the development of the Grade School girls’ sports program.
Donning the Blue and White were Gabrielle Martinez (K–Mabaya), Cassiegh Abad (2–Ipil), Lexie Enerio (2–Talisay), Tebby Baltazar (K–Kalimbahin), Bea Catral (1–Matipid), Charlie Dela Cruz (1–Malusog), Tala Lorenzo (2–Kamagong), Lara Martinez (K–Rosas), Mia Sto. Domingo (1–Malinis), and Livia Lazaro (1–Matatag), under the guidance of Head Coach Joyce Semacio. The first all-girls football team in Ateneo, they were also the only all-girls squad in a tournament otherwise composed of mixed teams.
Competing in the Under-6 division against four other teams, the girls advanced through the eliminations with a record of two wins, one loss, and one draw. In the finals, the Blue Eagles faced the same opponent that had handed them their lone defeat—and this time, they prevailed, displaying skill, grit, and composure beyond their years.
Formed less than a year ago through the initiative and support of Ateneo de Manila Football Program Head Bob Manlulo and AGS Athletics Coordinator Sean Alli, the team began with little experience but grew together through training, setbacks, and shared determination. Their championship stands as a testament to what young athletes can achieve when given opportunity, guidance, and belief.
More than a sporting achievement, the win affirms a powerful message: girls do not need permission to take up space. They belong on the field, at the table, and in every arena where excellence is pursued.
This first title is not only a victory—it is a beginning.
One Big Fight!
