SOH hosts conversation on AI and the humanities

The School of Humanities (SOH) of Ateneo de Manila University held “An SOH Conversation on AI and the Humanities” on 21 January 2026 at Escaler Hall. The activity gathered members of the University community for a discussion on the role of artificial intelligence in humanities education.
The program opened with a keynote presentation by Dominic 'Doc' Ligot, founder of CirroLytix and a key officer of DataEthics PH. His presentation discussed developments in artificial intelligence and its applications in educational contexts.
Following the keynote, a faculty panel presented examples of how artificial intelligence tools are being explored in different courses within the School of Humanities.
- Instr Michael Ian Benedict P Estipona of the Department of English spoke about the use of AI in Purposive Communication.
- Instr Anamarie R Avecilla of the Department of Philosophy presented her work on Integrating AI into the Teaching of Ethics.
- Lect Carljoe M Javier of the Department of Fine Arts discussed generative AI, Vibe Coding, and their applications in writing and creative work.
The panel discussion was moderated by Mr Edward Joseph C Ofilada, Academic Adviser of the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies and facilitated by Instr. Tyrone Justine D Perfecto.
