2025 Mid-Autumn Festival at the Ateneo Confucius Institute
08 Oct 2025
One of the most important and celebrated traditional festivals in Chinese communities worldwide is the Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节), also known as the Mooncake Festival. The Confucius Institute at Ateneo de Manila University marked the occasion with a series of activities from September to October 2025. These events welcomed students, faculty, staff, and the broader public to share in the spirit of reunion, joy, and cultural exchange, the very essence of the Festival.

On 20 September, the Kids’ Corner hosted a morning of storytelling for young learners and their parents, featuring the tale of the Jade Rabbit. Children came in colorful Chinese costumes, participated in lantern-making, learned new words and greetings, and received rabbit-themed gifts. Families enjoyed taking photos together, making the event both fun and memorable.

On 27 September, Confucius Institute Day welcomed the wider community with hands-on cultural activities. Guests made snow skin mooncakes and visited booths for fortune telling, the chopsticks challenge, rabbit and moon paper folding, a costume corner, and playing jiànzi (毽子), a traditional sipa-like game. The day was filled with laughter, creativity, and the discovery of Chinese culture.

From 2 to 3 October, the Institute joined the celebration of 50 years of diplomatic ties between the Philippines and China through The Golden Ties of Friendship: Kaalaman, Kaunlaran, Kasayahan, a Mid-Autumn Festival showcase at Fisher Mall, Quezon City. A special booth invited visitors to enjoy Jade Rabbit storytelling, lantern painting, calligraphy, Chinese name-giving, and learning new Chinese words and greetings. The activity created an engaging space for the public to experience Chinese culture.

On 4 October, the celebrations concluded with a Mooncake Dice Game for CI faculty and staff. Everyone enjoyed the excitement of rolling dice for prizes and sharing food, a tradition that highlighted fellowship and the joy of reunion.
Together, these four events showed that the Mid-Autumn Festival is not only a cultural celebration but also a season of connection, sharing, and joyful discovery.
