Subject         :          Moratorium Period for Undergraduate Student Activities - Second Semester SY 2021-22

The Moratorium Period for Undergraduate Student Activities for this semester will run from 16 May 2022 until 28 May 2022.

The Student Activities Moratorium Period has always been a policy of the Loyola Schools for undergraduate students to prioritize academic requirements and prepare for final examinations.

As stated in the General Regulations of the Loyola Schools Undergraduate Student Handbook, (Revised 2019 edition, p. 21):

LS General Regulation No. 8 - The Ateneo de Manila has always considered co-curricular activities and athletics essential to the balanced formation and development of the student. Activities and athletics are part of the community life of the Loyola Schools. Therefore, each student should participate in one or several activities to the extent that his/her studies will allow.

LS General Regulation No. 9 - Co-curricular activities, however, are meant to supplement studies, not to interfere with them. Hence, the Loyola Schools reserves the right to advise against participation in activities if the student needs to devote more time to studies.

These guidelines have been put in place to ensure that students have enough time to prepare for their exams and end-of-semester requirements.

While the implementation of the moratorium policy provides clear guidelines on the conduct of student activities, because of the extraordinary circumstances we are facing in light of the recent elections, we are called to remain vigilant and steadfast as we all continue to participate in post-election activities that aim to make sense of what happened. Please coordinate with your OSA Formator if you have planned post-election events and scheduled election-related activities.

May we all continue to actively contribute in the efforts to repair and put together our broken fragments of our fractured society. As Fr. Bobby mentioned in his Letter to the Community,

Use this moment as an opportunity to begin the arduous task of making whole again our heavily damaged democracy.

We reiterate our constant call for student activities to be an oasis—a source of refuge and strength, in these trying times. OSA will continue to assist and support you as your partners in formation.
