2023 THE World University Rankings
On behalf of the Ateneo de Manila Board of Trustees, I would like to congratulate the University community for being recognized in the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
For our first outing in the THE WUR, Ateneo de Manila ranked in the 351-400 bracket out of nearly 1,800 universities from around the world – the highest-ranked Philippine institution in this year's rankings, an impressive debut.
The THE WUR is one of the world's most authoritative institutional rankings, which takes into account teaching, research output and influence, and internationalization. We're especially proud to have been ranked as among the most influential institutions globally, research-wise, with a ranking of =60 in the Citations 'pillar'. This means that Ateneo de Manila has been a significant contributor to spreading new knowledge and ideas through our research and creative work output.
This outstanding outcome of our participation in the THE WUR has been years in the making, as we consistently worked towards improving and innovating in our learning and formation, amping up our research and creative work, and forging more linkages inside and outside the country.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our faculty, students, professionals, staff, and administrators who made this achievement possible, and in particular the Schools which have always been the drivers of research, and the offices that have crucially been supporting this effort:
- School of Humanities, John Gokongwei School of Management, School of Science and Engineering, School of Social Sciences, Gokongwei Brothers School of Education and Learning Design, Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health, Ateneo School of Government, Ateneo Law School, and Ateneo Graduate School of Business.
- University Research Council under the leadership of Dr Ninette de las Peñas and its previous Chairs: Dr Erwin Enriquez, Dr Jun Aguilar, and Dr Didith Rodrigo.
- Office of the Associate Dean for Research and Creative Work led by Dr Jayeel Cornelio
- Strategy & Quality Management Office led by Ms Rose Banzon and its former Director: Ms Tere Santos
- Loyola Schools Quality Assurance Office under the leadership of Dr Ixie Alejo and Dr Alma Salvador.
- Office of the Vice President for the Loyola Schools headed by Dr Marlu Vilches
- Office of the Vice President for the Professional Schools under the leadership of Dr John Paul Vergara and Dr Tonette Angeles
We also express our deep gratitude to former Ateneo de Manila President, Fr Jett Villarin SJ, and former Vice President for University and Global Relations, Fr Joey M Cruz SJ, for their invaluable support and stewardship these past years that enabled us to participate in the THE World University Rankings.
Ateneo's performance in the THE WUR shows that our University is at par with its foreign peers – an institution that is truly global yet firmly rooted in our Filipino, Catholic, and Jesuit identity.
This only reflects what we have been consistently and tirelessly doing all these years – our dedication to our mission to educate and form future leaders, produce and enrich knowledge, and seek solutions to society's most pressing problems.
I am proud of the entire Ateneo de Manila community for this achievement, and may this motivate us further to do our best, rankings notwithstanding, to continue being a force for good in the world.
Ad majorem Dei gloriam!
