RE:
Online Learning and Teaching in the Event of an AEWU Strike
“If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.”
-Hebrews 3:15
In light of the impending strike by the Ateneo Employees and Workers Union (AEWU), undergraduate and graduate classes in the Ateneo Loyola Schools are enjoined to go online from when the strike starts until it ends. This measure is in consonance with the university’s concern that its primary mission of teaching and learning should continue with limited interruption and disruption. If the strike happens while classes are onsite, these classes are expected to continue to be onsite during that first day of the strike. Beyond that day till the end of the strike, all classes are mandated to go online.
Exceptions to the mandate for the online mode are lab classes and major exams. Those who need to go onsite for these activities should ask permission from their department chairs, or program directors, or deans. Teachers should get the written consent/agreement of their students on these onsite activities and present evidence of their consent/agreement to their department/program/school authorities. Teachers and classes should also take responsibility for managing the labs and classrooms and for cleaning up after them when using the onsite facilities during the strike.
Classes will resume onsite the next day immediately following the end of the strike. Students and teachers who plan to go home or be away from Metro Manila for that period should prepare for such an eventuality.
On the mode of office operations during the strike, we shall follow the guidelines from OHRMOD.
May the Lenten Season enlighten our hearts so that we can continue to navigate challenging terrains with the grace of discernment.
