SWITCH-Asia Grants Programme funds
SWITCH-Asia Grants Programme funds pilot projects helping companies to adopt cleaner technologies and more sustainable industrial practices, as well as helping consumers to act more responsibly in their daily choices and lifestyles. Since 2007, this EU programme has funded projects across a wide range of sectors (energy efficiency in industrial plants and houses, agri-food and fishing sectors, textiles and leather, tourism, logistics and freight) implemented by over 500 Asian and European partners, about 100 private sector associates, indirectly benefitting up to 80.000 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). In 2023, the programme was extended to the Pacific.
By supporting the sharing of knowledge and developing local capacity for responsible business practices, SWITCH-Asia is a means for local companies to more easily access the supply chains of multinational companies which seek to establish green and fair conduct within their value-chains. The replication and scaling-up effect of project results together with access to finance and public-private investments for green products, services and technologies will be key elements within the programme in the next years in order to have a greater impact in the region. The evidence provided by projects is meant to feed into policy and regulatory discussions with national governments in their transition towards a low-carbon and resource-efficient economy through the improvement of national strategies and action plans with regard to sustainable production and consumption practices.

Sustaining Defenders through Feminist Holistic Security: 2023 open call for subgrants
Building resilience and legitimisation of women and gender-diverse human rights defenders
The Association for Progressive Communications (APC) is pleased to announce an open call for subgrants to support women human rights defenders (WHRDs)* in their work to promote safety and prevention and protect human rights advocates. These grants are designed to support WHRDs in developing and implementing holistic safety strategies, including training, research, advocacy and lobbying.
This rolling call round is open until 24 November 2023. The amount of funding requested per proposal can range from USD 5,000 to USD 15,000, depending on the scope and scale of the proposed intervention. The activities should be implemented and reported by 31 June 2024.
The sub grants are available to individual WHRDs and WHRD-led organisations from the global South. APC is particularly interested in supporting individuals, collectives and networks from marginalised groups and intersected identities, such as LGBTQIA+, Indigenous, Afro-descendant, land and environment activists, grassroots groups and racial and sexual minorities.
The subgrants are available in three categories:
- Knowledge development grants support research that produces original and rigorous knowledge on the nature, scope and impact of threats and attacks against WHRDs in different contexts, and the effectiveness of strategies for protecting and promoting the safety of WHRDs.
- Policy and advocacy grants support the development and implementation of policies and practices that protect and promote the security of WHRDs at the national and local level.
- Capacity and resilience building grants support training and other capacity-building activities that help WHRDs to develop the skills and knowledge to increase safety and care in order to carry out their work effectively.

Climate x Health Small Grant Program
The climate crisis is upending life as we know it. The threat it poses to human health and well-being is making this crisis personal at a scale never seen before.
In the lead up to COP28 and the first-ever Health Day on 3 December 2023, Wellcome Trust, The Rockefeller Foundation, the Global Climate & Health Alliance and Amref Health Africa have convened the Climate x Health initiative to help channel growing interest and engagement in the climate and health landscape toward meaningful joint action for people and planet.
Based on feedback from early consultations (April-June 2023), Climate x Health seeks to build on, complement, and amplify the ongoing efforts of longstanding climate and health actors by:
- Expanding and diversifying participation in the climate x health movement
- Developing a shared big picture narrative to align and inspire action
- Offering forums and support to coordinate strategies and activities across the landscape, particularly as more organizations get involved
- Elevating the work, perspectives, and calls to action of climate x health champions
Join us to urge collective action to mitigate the worst impacts of the climate crisis, adapt systems and societies to safeguard health and wellbeing, and ensure the most affected communities have the resources they need.

Awards
2024 Natural Climate Solutions award
Around the world, land stewards, indigenous peoples and local communities hold a unique power to protect and restore essential ecosystems. From forests to wetlands, these ecosystems are a key defence against climate change.
Indigenous people safeguard 80% of the world’s remaining biodiversity. When they are threatened – or denied the chance to make a sustainable living – our climate is threatened too.
The Ashden Award for Natural Climate Solutions will boost the work of Indigenous peoples and local communities carrying out their vision of ecological restoration and territory protection, and strengthening their incomes, wellbeing and security of their communities.
The winner could be turning palm or soy plantation areas into sustainable productive land, helping communities restore degraded or desertified ecosystems, or supporting community agroforestry. The winner’s work will be centered on the needs, priorities and knowledge of indigenous people and local communities.
