HE Memo #Y1.42
22 November 2023
TO:
The Ateneo de Manila Community in Higher Education
FROM:
[Sgd] Maria Luz C Vilches, PhD
Vice President for Higher Education
SUBJECT:
Learning and Teaching for the Remainder of the Week
The last few days of the transport strike have seen us doing learning and teaching online. Recent news from major media networks has indicated a continuing transport strike by another group until Friday, 24th November.
In light of all this, we continue to recommend for teaching and learning to be done ONLINE in the Schools of Education and Learning Design, Humanities, Management, Science and Engineering, and Social Sciences until Friday, 24th November. We understand that there are courses whose activities cannot be carried out online but in physical labs onsite; there are academic requirements that can be accomplished only onsite (group projects, exams, etc.). Arrangements on these courses and activities should be done at the level of the appropriate departments through the respective deans. Assigned classrooms and labs remain available for those who wish to hold classes onsite.
For the Schools of Medicine and Public Health, Law, Government, and Business, the respective Deans of these schools shall make the necessary announcements which are appropriate to their contexts.
Just as a postscript, I would like to urge everyone to continue to use Canvas as the backbone of our courses. We know that if course design and material are on Canvas, decisions about learning and teaching modality can be based on a pedagogical value and especially in situations that tend to be disruptive.
Thank you for your patience and perseverance!
